For
the last few years I've been seeing more and more quilters, or, more
specifically, quilt bloggers, using the term "low volume" in reference
to a quilt. I believe what they are actually talking about is low contrast. I imagine we all have those things that quiltzyxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08847188443140845514noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6270652410656419039.post-34953307387197650672015-02-18T17:54:00.001-08:002015-02-18T17:54:29.767-08:00Moving to BloglovinFollow my blog with Bloglovinquiltzyxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08847188443140845514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6270652410656419039.post-67558635673473600202015-01-02T19:16:00.002-08:002015-01-02T19:16:24.692-08:00December 2014 NewFO Project
Starting off my last NewFO post, isn't even my NewFO...this is my TLC Quilters' President's Quilt, for serving two years as president. Members of the guild made 9-Patch blocks and our past president, Jean Kuper collected them & then made a Disappearing 9-Patch quilt for me. Another of our members, Virginia Martinez, quilted it on her long arm. I love it! And quiltzyxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08847188443140845514noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6270652410656419039.post-47984457350207293352014-11-30T00:13:00.004-08:002014-11-30T00:13:38.171-08:00November NewFO Challenge
It's been a while since I've posted anything for the NewFO Challenge, but I have something this time. I've been working on some gifts this month and actually remembered to take some photos before they were wrapped up for a change!
I've posted similar ones before, but these are new colors and sizes.
First are some crocheted coasters.
Once again, I used Mary Ylisela's quiltzyxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08847188443140845514noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6270652410656419039.post-81461641593301326212014-07-31T15:46:00.001-07:002014-07-31T15:49:07.658-07:00July 2014 NewFO goings on
What do you know? I actually did some things this month - AND remembered to take some pictures too! Yay me!!
I didn't do any sewing to speak of.
Maybe a little on my ongoing project for my sister.
But, really, it's been too stinkin' hot in my house for me to sew. I can't afford to turn on the a/c, and I can't seem to figure out a way to situate a fan to blow on me, quiltzyxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08847188443140845514noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6270652410656419039.post-81521712149522012892014-05-01T15:03:00.000-07:002014-05-01T15:03:39.677-07:00It's NewFO Challenge Time Again!
I don't have any new quilty stuff this time. I've been continuing to work on my sister's braid quilt, adding a few more pieces at a time.
My only new things are more crocheted coasters. I'm trying to stock up on things for my guild's holiday boutique in October. I'd like to not be madly trying to finish at the last minute like I usually do!
I used this pattern quiltzyxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08847188443140845514noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6270652410656419039.post-75475389042051822552014-04-02T20:34:00.000-07:002014-04-02T20:34:27.788-07:00March NewFO Challenge
It's hard to believe that it's April already!
For us here in SoCal, March definitely did NOT go out like a lamb - but instead with a swarm of earthquakes! I live in a mobile home, very close to two sets of railroad tracks and I think my washer on spin cycle is about a 2.5 on the Richtor scale, so I often don't notice small shakers, but during the 5.1 quake last Friday night, it seemed quiltzyxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08847188443140845514noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6270652410656419039.post-72238464750441160572014-02-28T02:39:00.002-08:002014-02-28T02:42:50.082-08:002014 NewFO Challenge for February
This has been a pretty productive month for me! My guild has a UFO Challenge going on this year. We signed up to finish 6 of our UFOs - one every two months. We numbered our six, and then every other month they choose a number at random & that's the one we're supposed to finish. These were mine:

A week or so ago my friend Ashley MacQuarrie posted this picture of her pet hedgehog, Rilo:
with the caption:
Rilo the blanket hog.
My first thought was that Rilo needed a quilt.
So I sat down at my machine & reached into the scrap bag and started sewing.
A little sewing, cutting, pressing & sewing later:
Just need to put some binding on it
and away to Oregon it quiltzyxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08847188443140845514noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6270652410656419039.post-29702311287020870702014-01-01T14:49:00.001-08:002014-01-01T14:49:30.500-08:00The Final 2013 NewFOs!
This is it.
The final post for the 2013 NewFO Challenge
at Cat Patches.
The first will possibly be a table runner.
Or maybe I'll add more to it &
make it a lap quilt.
I haven't quite decided.
The Christmas fabric squares were gifted to me from one of my guild members.
There weren't an equal amount of the different fabrics, so I had a bit of a challenge figuring out the quiltzyxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08847188443140845514noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6270652410656419039.post-77418766349601352512013-12-15T00:00:00.001-08:002013-12-15T13:52:51.068-08:00NewFo Challenge 2014 Preview!

Now, for my possible NewFOs, here's my list:
A few pincushions
Some place mat sets for my guild's first stand-alone boutique.

Back in October, I won a giveaway from my friend Kat at http://flutterkat.com, and won a lovely metal purse frame with sweet green knobs, a fat quarter of fabric to go along with it and the pattern for a bag. Not wanting to rush into anything, I had to let my prize marinate for a while. Then, when shifting a pile of, er, stuff, I came across some fabric that I had purchased quiltzyxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08847188443140845514noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6270652410656419039.post-32939385637382542172013-11-01T13:25:00.001-07:002013-11-01T13:25:56.811-07:00Fun with pins
It's that time again -
I'm joining in on the fun over at CAT PATCHES
for the October NewFO Party.
I made this pincushion for my Secret Pal at quilt guild.
Our theme for October was animal print or nature.
Since I hadn't made her a pincushion, this is what I came up with:
I found that button in one of my button tins & thought it went just right - what do you think?quiltzyxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08847188443140845514noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6270652410656419039.post-68176197950413916222013-10-12T18:25:00.002-07:002013-10-12T18:25:16.743-07:0052 Photos Project: Starts With a C
COW
Doesn't it have great eyelashes?
My sister & I were on a photo daytrip, when we saw some cattle in a pasture.
If I walked up to the fence, they just stared at me.
Whenever she walked up, they turned & trotted away!
Ouch! Dissed by the cows.

It's that time of the month again!
Yep, the sharing of the NewFOs with Cat Patches.
The first of mine is actually a finish
(oh amazing rarity for me):
Thank you Steam-a-Seam!
First, let me say this:
I do not like garment sewing.
Nope, not even a little bit.
Garment sewing gives me great stress.
But I have persevered, and I finished 2 pairs of boxers for my great-nephews, quiltzyxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08847188443140845514noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6270652410656419039.post-57973437775713591662013-08-28T08:16:00.001-07:002013-08-28T08:16:38.334-07:0052 Photos Project: On The {Fire} Line

Our prompt this week for
the 52 Photos Project
is
Layers/Stacks.
This is what came to my mind
immediately:
I think that stacked stone walls are so beautiful.
And the thought of the care and artistry
that went into the making of the wall
is inspiring.
This wall is in the historic gold mining town of Downieville,
in the Sierra mountains of California.
