Jelly Roll Race at 1 Choice 4 Quilting

What a fun time I've had today!
I participated in 1 Choice 4 Quilting's
"Jelly Roll Race"!

I started out by making my own 'jelly roll'.
I went into "The Fabric Shoppe" -
otherwise known as my stash,
and picked out 20 different fabrics.
Then I cut two 2.5" strips from each one.
I sorted them and stacked them up,
trying to make sure that the colors
were well mixed up.
Most of them were blues,
with a couple blue & yellows,
a some reds.

Once I started sewing them together,
I discovered that the colors moved on their own
and clumped together!
LOL
But I really like the way it came out:

This is going to be the perfect size
for a couch quilt.
In person, it's a LOT brighter than it looks in this picture,
but of course the sun went behind the clouds
and the wind came up just as I was ready to
take the pictures.

I think I might be making some more of these!
The sewing took me less than 2 hours,
and I'm not very speedy at the machine.  :D

Hope you're all having a fun weekend!

Cat Quilt In Development, part 1

So, here goes.....

For the prizes we're selling tickets on at work
from now until August 19th,
here is the first sketch of the small quilt
I'm planning to make
and donate.

The kitty is based on Elizabeth,

who owns my sister Judy & her DH, Walter.

I'm thinking of using
'made fabric' for the borders
and wonky stars in the corners.

So, what do you think?

Have a great Memorial weekend!

Charity at Work

At work this week, we were split into four teams
and told to pick a local charity to raise money for.
Between now and August 19th, we are competing against each other to see who can raise the most money to donate.  I spend most of my work time in my office in the Service Department, but I also help out in the Business Office,
so I got to choose which team I wanted to work with.
Since there are only 3 people in the Business Office,
I decided to join that team.

We are Team AWESOME!
Our charity is
the Inland Valley Humane Society in Pomona.
The team includes
Mallory, Social Media Princess,
Juline, Empress of the Cash Drawer,
Sheri, Queen of All Things,
me, Sue, Warranty Wonder,
and joining us are
Chalo, Henry & Carlos, Princes of PDI.
and it would be great if you would LIKE us!

We're selling tickets & will be having some great prizes.
I know Mallory is donating one her beautiful vintage-style necklaces, and I'll be making a small quilt too
(stayed tuned for updates as I design & put it together!).

Wish us luck, cheer us on....donate if you can!

Here's to a Thrilling Thursday to us all!!

Foto Finish --- Drama in the Sky

This weeks topic for Foto Finish is Drama in the Sky.

I love to take pictures of the sky - sunrises and sunsets with all their glorious colors, storm clouds & thunderheads, and lovely, puffy white clouds on one of those perfect days.

Today's picture was taken in late April 2007, on the last day of my 4500 mile roadtrip from California to Missouri and back.  I was making my way south from Idaho, through Nevada, and was almost to the California border.  I started out with some light snow in Idaho, and it had been raining on & off in Nevada, with mostly overcast skies.  All of the sudden, the clouds began to open up & this is what I saw:

When my sister saw this photo, she said:
"It looks like heaven."

If you have a picture of some sky drama,
or if you want to see more wonderful photos,
pop on over to Cat Patches, Foto Finish!

Have a great week!

Sold!!!

The Chino Valley Walk for Mental Health
went off without a hitch today.
It was cool, in the low 60s,
and overcast most of the day.
Not too bad, except when the chill wind started blowing!

The bands were great,
and kept us entertained all day long.
The food was excellent,
I had an incredible BBQ tri-tip sandwich.
YUM!

I don't know the final dollar amount donated,
but I heard that it may be over $5000.
A wonderful start for a first-time event!

"Jason's Guitar" made over $200!!!
And the best part?

The person who won the auction
gave the quilt to Linda & Dave - Jason's parents!
Isn't that amazing?

Thanks to everyone who cheered me on
during this project.
I wouldn't have made it without you!

"Jason's Guitar" quilt

Tomorrow,
Saturday, May 14, 2011 this quilt
will be part of a silent auction at the
Walk for Mental Health in Ayala Park, Chino, CA.

I can't believe how strange the colors came out in these photos!!  The pieced borders are purple & green,
and the musical fabric is white background
with either gray & black or all black notes.
The backing fabric is solid black!
Oh well.
I will attempt to get some nice pictures of it
hanging at the event tomorrow.  :^)

For some background & to see the actual colors,
you can go here
& here .

Anyway, here's the quilted quilt,
(before I put the binding on).
It's about 72" X 90" & is laying on a queen-size bed.

I'll post more after the event!

Black, I tell you, it really is BLACK!

Ginger, at Ginger's Quilt Shoppe
in Upland, CA
did a fabulous job on the quilting!
Thank you SO MUCH Ginger!!!

If you're in the area
come on out to Ayala Park in Chino.
It's at Edison & Central
and there will be lots of signs
pointing the way!
There will be live bands playing all day,
as well as mental health info booths
and food booths.
Come out & walk
or bring a chair and sit & enjoy the music!
I've heard that some of
Jason's music will be played too.

For more info, go to http://www.jasontennies.org/

Have a wonderful weekend!

Foto Finish --- What Is It?

This week's Foto Finish theme is "What Is It?"
It was a lot of fun, trying to find something to take a photo of from a different perspective.

This is what I finally decided on - do you know what it is??

from the bottom....

from the top....

It's a LEGO pine tree!

To see some more interesting photos,
head on over to Cat Patches Foto Finish!

Thanks Em!!!

A few weeks ago, over at Em Celebrates!, I was lucky enough to win one of her giveaways.  Wooooohoooo!!!  It was a 'secret' giveaway  - I didn't know what I had won until it came in the mail!

Last week, while I was home sick, the postman dropped a box off on my steps.  I brought it in & saw it was from Em!  Oh boy!!  The only problem was, that I was coughing so much, I was afraid to open it because I didn't want it to get all germy.  :-( .  I did let her know that I had received it though.

So, all week, as I've been resting & taking my antibiotics, eye drops, cough syrup, etc.,  I've also been looking forward to opening that box!

I finally opened it!  OH BOY!!!!!   Just look what she sent to me:

It came wrapped in this cute, cute fabric
with a musical bow...

There was a Princess necklace that lights up!

An M&M fan !!!
(that I may use when I'm painting ceramics to help them dry faster!)
And I AM a M&M fan too!

And I got an Em Celebrates! Original quilt!!!!!

I cannot begin to tell you how happy this little quilt makes me!

Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU Em!!!

You truly do go THE EXTRA MILE!!!

Today, I am CELEBRATING Em!

Have a wonderful week!
